The Society For Door Step Schools

The Society believes that the community plays an important part in education. It runs Balwadi programmes, study classes, non-formal education, school on wheels, additionally it also runs supportive initiatives such as community learning centres, door-to-door libraries, computer centres, Bal samuha, mobile libraries and science and maths labs.

To address low attendance and low enrolment in low-cost private schools the Society partners with them to build teachers’ capacities and deliver learning through programmes like first step forward, remedial classes, reading promotion, home lending, Bal samuha, e-learning, mental health projects, school bus service and maintaining training cells.

This programme sets out to establish learning centres at construction sites to teach children of migrant communities, set up community training centres to coach middle and secondary school students after classes and the school on wheels initiative, taking mobile classrooms to difficult-to-reach areas in a bid to extend education to the remote and underprivileged.

Aims to concentrate on class 1 students to prepare them well for the classes ahead, conducting reading classes to encourage reading habits which in turn leads to an increase in interest in reading and to support this the organisation runs home lending programmes providing books to be read at home.

This programme intends to inculcate good eating and sanitation habits among Government school children. It also involves the maintenance of sanitation facilities in schools, taking up monitoring of such facilities and reporting any pending action to appropriate agencies. Children are guided to the proper use of toilets and other hygienic habits.
