Our Children has partnered with 35 Child Welfare Institutions in Mumbai to run development programs and activities. These institutions provide shelter Read more to children below the age of 18 years who are orphans, from broken families, destitute or in judicial custody. The organisation acts as a bridge between various employment opportunities and the children. It provides support in terms of education, life skills and mentoring to the children to help them explore various employment opportunities. Its initiatives includes programmes such as Learning Beyond which encourages children to discover themselves, discover their talents, build confidence and learn creative skills. This program takes place in residential camps where professionals are hired to teach various skills and art forms to the children. The second initiative includes Group Homes which supports girls above 18 years of age. The programme provides aid in terms of apartment rent and infrastructure support for 3 years. Further, the girls who are pursuing different degrees or different jobs live together in order to support one another and acquire soft and social skills through a joint effort. Additionally, the girls are provided with mentorship and counselling to entrust them with responsibility and freedom to enable them to be successful. The third initiative includes The Children’s Meet is a flagship event where over 2000 children from institutions all over Mumbai take part in a cultural program giving them an opportunity to display their creativity and talent using music, dance and art. The fourth initiative includes the Educational Assistance Program is designed to encourage higher education, celebrate successful students and encourage them to take up professional and job oriented fields. Additionally, the organisation also conducts a Health Assistance Program which delivers 5000 kg of milk powder a month to institutes. Further, regular counselling is provided on maintaining good health along with the distribution of hygiene kits. It also organises various health checkups and medical/dental camps in collaboration with other medical NGOs. The fifth initiative is the monthly birthday programme which celebrates the collective birthdays of children each month and along with celebrations, the occasion is used for activities such as story telling, acting of skits, singing and also imparting life lessons and motivational talks. The sixth initiative includes recreational outing program which is designed to provide day outings and overnight camps such as “a day in a village” organised in collaboration with other NGOs. The camps involve sport activities, team building and other programs designed to ensure that children get exposure to more people and develop their personalities.
