Overview |
It aims to work for upliftment of women and artisans so that they can earn a decent livelihood by utilizing their traditional skills. It helps rural artisans by setting up production units where they can utilize their traditional skills, develop products suitable for modern markets and create a sustainable source of income. The company has five core areas of impact. The first is 'Increased and Regular Income' as 83% of the producers have witnessed increase in the average salary as compared to their previous jobs. Second is 'Equitable and Decent Working Conditions' where they have freedom to choose their work. Third is 'Resilience to Life Crisis' as 81% of the producers have started saving money in the bank. The fourth aspect focuses on 'Women Empowerment' as the organisation has reached 30,000 craftswomen across India & Africa through collective efforts of esteemed organisations like The Future group, IKEA, The Commonwealth Secretariat, Grassroot Business Fund and National Skill Development Corporation. 75 % of these women have reported a greater amount respect from their families. The last is the 'Access to the Quality Education' where it is noted that 85% of producers with children are working to pay for their children's education. It focuses on inclusion of artisans in the economy as it has collaborated with the Government of India to train these artisans. In Karnataka, it is helping the artisans to create apparel business by setting up 15-25 independent manufacturing facilities. In Odisha, it is working with the Odisha Forest Sector Development Project to help around 300 women who collect Siali leaves in the forest area. This initiative is being funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Currently in Tamil Nadu, it is conducting a coaching programme funded by Standard Chartered where 1,000 rural craftsmen are being trained to run a business. It aims to reach 5,000 artisans through this programme. |
