Overview |
The Satya Bharti School Program provides free quality education to first generation learners in rural India, with a special focus on the girl child. In addition to free education, the schools also provide free mid-day meals, textbooks, notebooks, shoes, and other school items to all the students. The program focuses on activities both inside and outside classroom so that students learn academically and develop character. The Satya Bharti Quality Support Program is a program that works along with Government schools to improve the overall schooling experience for the children. It works with teachers and stakeholders such as parents to bridge gaps and catalyze changes to improve the learning experience for students. The Program specifically works to empower the school leaders and teachers to undertake initiatives, gain confidence, and develop skills. In addition, it aims to nurture students' sense of well-being and confidence, and to equip them with life-skills. Finally, it also engages with parents, community members, and other stakeholders to ensure that changes for growth are efficiently implemented. Bharti Foundation's Satya Bharti Learning Centres program is a program which aims to bridge the education gap of out of school children to mainstream them into regular schools. The first phase of the program was initiated under a partnership with the Government of Rajasthan, which then extended to Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand. Through the program the foundation selects and trains volunteers, identifies children who have dropped-out, and provides relevant educational assistance to each child with the aim of mainstreaming the student into school. To ensure that the enrolled students remain in school, the foundation provides regular parent counseling and conducts community mobilization events to build awareness and community ownership regarding the children's education. The aim of the Satya Bharti Abhiyan initiative is to improve rural household sanitation facilities in Punjab, for which the Foundation will invest up to Rs.100 Crores in constructing toilets over the next three years. In addition to rural household sanitation, the initiative will be building toilets for girls in government schools in rural Ludhiana, where no such facilities exist. In order to spread awareness and inculcate a behavioral change, students from various Satya Bharti Schools will be reaching out to nearby villages to educate villagers about the benefits of maintaining sanitation and using household toilets. These schools, in collaboration with government schools and other partners will ultimately spread awareness on the dangers of open defecation to all the villages in the Ludhiana district. In partnership with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, the Bharti Foundation has set up the Bharti School of Telecommunication Technology and Management at IIT Delhi, to develop telecom leaders. |
