Major tasks and accomplishments (as reported by the NGO):
ACTIVITIES OF BETHESDA YOUTH WELFARE CENTREI. OUT PATIENT COUNSELLING AND DE-TOXIFICATION:A vital part of the services provided by the BYWCD is the Chemical Addiction outpatient program. The focus is on Chemical dependency counseling. The duration of counseling depends on the individual. II. DE-ADDICTION & REHABILITATION:15 Bedded de-toxification and rehabilitation program.3 to 6 months program based on 4 pronged approach viz., Physical , Spiritual, Work and Social Therapy.III. YOUTH EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAM:The programs envisage networking exclusively to the Church group throughout Nagaland by conducting Seminars, Workshops and Training there by shaping public opinion. IV. TARGETED INTERVENTION (IDUs) PROJECTS: BYWCD runs Targeted Intervention Projects in 3 districts of Nagaland targeting the Injecting Drug Users, Funded by Nagaland SACS and EHA/AVAHAN -Project ORCHID.Dimapur:DIC, Duncan/NewmarketNagaland Gate/Westyard Chumukedima/6th mile Phek:Bethesda B-ELF, Phek Bethesda C-RWS, PfutseroBethesda D-TTM, ChozubaWokha :Bethesda Welfare Club Network DIC, Bhandari Town /Sanis / Merapani / DoyangActivities : -_ Counseling and one to one interaction _ Abscess Care/Treatment _ STI Treatment_ STD, HIV/AIDS referrals & Primary Medical Care and rehabilitation information_ Advocacy Meetings & FGD._ Awareness on Drugs & HIV/AIDS_ Condom Promotion and Needle & Syringe Exchange Program _ IEC distribution_ Indoor games & Creativity Therapy_ Follow-Up V. RURAL HEALTH & EDUCATIONAL UPLIFTMENT PROGRAM:It was started in the interstate border of Assam-Nagaland on the foothills of Wokha District. The Center conducts free medical camps and awareness on proper health care. A rural Elementary School is also functional since 2001.VI. BETHESDA RURAL CULTURAL CENTRE:This program was set up at Hayiyan Lio-Wokha, Wokha District to bring the people together in a platform, integrating Drugs & HIV/AIDS awareness program by reviving, preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of the people. VII. Centre for Community Transformation The main objective is to provide the best services to the needs of the community. It has an AC conference hall with a capacity to accommodate around 40-50 people. It has a Guest House within the Training Complex with a capacity of 28 guests.VIII. SCENEI CSD - 10It is working in 18 villages in the Nagaland-Assam Border of Wokha district -Nagaland. This project is being operated in partnership with NE NGO Dialogue Forum (supported by EED). Activities: -_ Promotion of Indigenous seeds_ Formation of food banks_ Seed money and other economic support for SHG_ Awareness creation and Training on Economic Literacy, Gender, Peace globalization and Democratization.IX. Inter-Personal and Community Based Communication (IPC)Supported by Australian International Health Institute (The University of Melbourne) Ltd. (AIHI). The objectives is to reduce Stigma and Discrimination toward PLHAs in Wokha district:_ Capacity building of the women to facilitate change in the community._ To provide information on HIV/AIDS free from Myths and misconceptions._ To develop adequate understanding of the different forms of HIV/AIDS related stigma and Discrimination.X. SUBSTITUTION THERAPY PROJECT Funded by EHA-DFID the project focus on reducing the rate of HIV infection amongst the IDUs, by administering Buprenorphine to IDUs thus, avoiding injecting.
