Friendicoes SECA works as an animal shelter and a hospital that adopts, provides treatment and protection to abandoned animals, lost pets, stray anima Read morels and injured animals. The organisation has established a medical department, an in-house clinic for the strays that accommodates about 150-200 animals, two operation theaters, lab, x-ray unit and a sanctuary in Gurgaon that houses about a thousand animals. Additionally, it also runs an emergency ambulance service and neuter programmes. Further, the organisation also runs a sanctuary which is spread over an area of 10.5 acres of land, out of which 8 acres are on rent from local villagers and provides a safe haven to almost 600 dogs, 200 equines, 80 cats and 40 cows. Additionally, the organisation also runs an adoption programme for abandoned puppies and dogs at the shelter. The adoption team interacts, observes and understands the dogs at the shelter before they are put up for adoption. If a dog falls sick while under the organisation's care then it aims to find a foster home for it to recover. Also, if a dog needs special behavior correction, then it is put under the care of dog behaviorist before adoption. Every year the adoption program is able to re-home about 100 odd animals. Further, it has introduced the 'Mobile Equine Clinic' for the welfare and benefit of the working horses and mules in Delhi and its surrounding areas. Apart from providing medical care and assistance to over 1000 working Equines, the team also provides free farrier training to the Equine owners. The team also looks into the availability of clean drinking water and shade shelter for the animals at main areas of business. In addition to this, the organisation also runs a spay and neuter programme at Andaman and Nicobar Islands in collaboration with local islanders and the animal husbandry department. The program is mainly based in the capital Port Blair where the team performs almost 150 surgeries every month.

Helpline & Ambulance Service
Provides a Helpline for distressed strays in need of medical attention from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The three Friendicoes ambulances, which transport sick or injured animals from their local region to the shelter for care, provide support for this function. These ambulances return the animal to its home region after it has finished its treatment and recovery. An average of fifty calls are received by the Helpline each day.

Adoption Program
Many abandoned dogs who have been given up by their owners for a variety of reasons reside at the Friendicoes shelter. In addition, street-born dogs also find their way to us. And cats and kittens do too. Adoption from the shelter is still extremely rare, despite the adoption team's best efforts to locate these babies homes.
In comparison to the number of animals that are abandoned or in need of homes, the adoption program is only able to rehome roughly 100 animals annually. Does the adoption process go well? Click this to read.
