Major Activities

Major tasks and accomplishments (as reported by the NGO):
The NGO has been working since 1996 in the following fields, I. Capacity Building, Skill Upgradation and Economic Empowerment: Eight Brothers has been implementing various projects like, Special Handicraft Training Project, Design & Technical Development Workshop in Bamboo Craft Under MOT, and AHVY scheme under MOT, Training for Handicraft Artisans Under CAPART, EDP on food processing etc. Till now, the NGO has formed 310 SHGs and has been providing Training on various income generation activities. II. Road Safety & Traffic Awareness: Apart from organizing various Awareness Programmes like, slid projection, display of quickies, performance of Street plays, the NGO also conducted Refresher Training to HMV drivers under aegis of Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways. Free eye check-ups for drivers were also organized. III. Health & Family Welfare: Under Assam State AIDS Control Society, the NGO has been carrying on a Targeted Intervention Project on Migrant Labourers of Bihali for a couple of years as well as different Awareness Programmes on HIV/AIDS. As a member of Kalyani Health Club of Guwahati Doordarshan Kendra, the NGO conducted various health Programmes in different parts of Kamrup and Sonitpur. IV. Women and Child Development: the NGO has been maintaining a cr��_che in Tezpur for a couple o years under Rajiv Gandhi National cr��_che Scheme. Now and Then Food items are distributed among Anganwadi Centres under Assam State Social Welfare Board. An Awareness Generation Project for Rural and Poor Women was implemented under Assam State Social Welfare Board. Moreover, more than 200 women SHGs are formed by the NGO. V. Cultural Programmes: To strengthening the ethnic brotherhood amongst different tribes of Assam, Eight Brothers organized one Janagosthiya Bhaona(a kind of Drama) Mahatsov. From time to time, it records folk songs and dances for Guwahati Doordarshan Kendra.VI. Environmental Programme: Another important area of workof the NGO is to work for plantation, Cleanliness Drive, Awareness creation against use of plastic etc.
