Overview |
The Freeset staff consists of victims of sex-trafficking in West Bengal. Freeset sells bags, tee-shirts, scarves, and hand-woven fabrics that are made by these women, with the aim to empower them through freedom and a sustainable livelihood. The organization ensures it provides fair wages above the national minimum wage, a healthy working environment, health care, child care, a savings plan, and training to all employees. Freeset products are manufactured using eco-friendly materials and printing techniques in ethical conditions. It was awarded a Fair Trade Guaranteed status as of April 2016. The Freeset Trust is a charitable organization that works alongside Freeset, providing counseling and care for the Freeset staff and community, including providing literacy classes, child care, and budgeting and debt management services. In order to augment the impact on and increase the opportunities available to women from the sex-industry, the Freeset Business Incubator provides help and resources to anyone who wants to start a freedom business. The incubator offers a three-week Freedom Encounter course which helps participants understand the Freedom Business and start one in West Bengal or Bangladesh. The year-long Freedom Exposure experience helps establish the foundation for building a Freedom Business. |
