Its mission is dedicated to empowering orphans, vulnerable children, and marginalized youth through high-quality education and socio-economic endeavours. Originally established to rehabilitate children in conflict zones, CHINAR International expanded its scope post-crisis, broadening its services to include disaster relief. Adapting to a scalable objective, the organisation embraced a community-centric approach, prioritising sustainable and influential solutions. Operating autonomously in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, CHINAR International's impact spans all districts of Kashmir and two districts of Jammu, with additional global offices in Srinagar, Delhi, and Virginia.

Programs

  • Child Development Programme

    Fostering a nurturing environment, the emphasis lies on supporting children at home, in school, and within the community to facilitate their growth, enabling them to realize their full potential and achieve their aspirations. The child development initiative provides a nurturing setting for youngsters in vulnerable communities, guaranteeing access to quality education. This programme serves children in families experiencing financial constraints, attending to their diverse needs without disrupting their natural surroundings.

  • Livelihood Support Programme

    The Livelihood Support initiative aids guardians of the Child Development programme beneficiaries facing financial hardships. Instead of offering one-time or short-term aid, its strategy centres on fostering long-term and sustainable change. Provisional livelihood assistance is provided to empower beneficiaries to generate a lasting income, promoting self-sufficiency. This ensures families can thrive in a supportive environment, fostering independence within a defined timeframe and avoiding dependency on temporary support.

  • Quality Education Programme

    The enduring conflict spanning almost three decades in Kashmir has deeply affected millions of children. Jammu and Kashmir consistently rank among the states with the poorest student learning outcomes. The Quality Education initiative aims to narrow this gap by implementing interventions that involve teachers, parents, and the community, integrating technology where appropriate. Collaborating with the Department of School Education, it enhances low-resource Government schools, focusing on holistic child development through strategies like remedial education, community engagement, teacher training, technology-driven learning, and modern school infrastructure development.

  • Youth Development Programme

    Recent statistics indicate that a significant portion of Kashmiri youth, approximately 41%, face unemployment or underemployment. The focus is on engaging with these young individuals to cultivate a mindset oriented towards innovation, entrepreneurship, and the value of labour. The objective is to enhance their skill set, fostering self-reliance. This is achieved through the implementation of initiatives like skill development, entrepreneurship labs, and community-level business incubation programmes.

  • Warwan Valley Transformation Programme

    CHINAR devised a strategy to uplift the less-developed Warwan Valley, aspiring to align it with other regions in Jammu and Kashmir, with a particular focus on children, youth, education, and communities.

    Recognizing the shortage of qualified teachers, especially during the extended winter months, a group of enthusiastic young individuals, both men and women, were encouraged to step forward as educators. However, they required training.

    In November 2017, a three-week residential training boot camp for 15 community volunteers was organised at the CHINAR Office in Srinagar, proving to be a pivotal decision for progress in Warwan.
